Several organizations and galleries in the
Yuma area are devoted to the arts. Arizona Western College displays artwork throughout its campus, and sponsors cultural events. Numerous groups stage performances during the year. For more information call (928) 726-1000. Also located on the campus of AWC is the Gallery Mile Post Nine in the Fine Arts Building. The gallery sponsors exhibits by students and faculty, and hosts traveling shows. Call (928) 344-7598. Ballet Folklorico Mexicano is a youth ballet troupe based in Somerton. The group performs cultural dances representing seven Mexican states. Call (928) 343-9729 Cultural Council of Yuma is a private, not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to foster the excellence, diversity and vitality of the arts and culture in the Yuma area. CCY is the official cultural coordinator for the City of Yuma, publishes a calendar of community events and offers several arts and cultural related programs for the Yuma community. For more information call (928) 783-2423. Ballet Yuma is a member of the Regional Dance America and is going to Nationals in the next year. The dance troupe's major annual performances are the Spring Repertory Concert in April, and The Nutcracker in December. Call (928) 329-4762. Yuma Chamber Orchestra consists of some of the area's finest amateur and professional musicians. The nearly 40 piece orchestra was established in 1976 and presents six performances annually.
