IGIG #1
Welcome! to the IGIG! Homepage design classes!
The time we spend together will be fun. Everything will be presented one small step at a time. So, without further ado:
1. Please read the safety link, Child Safety on the Information Highway, before sending in first lesson.
I'm mostly concerned that you realize the importance of not publishing the location and time of your regular meetings or your girl's last names, addresses or phone #s.
2. Your lessons will be sent to me as e-mail messages. To make it as simple as possible for me to keep track of everyone, there are some formatting rules that everyone who is starting today or in the future will have to follow.
a. Only send e-mail to ourtroop@azmetro.com. I have other e-mail addresses but it's impossible for me to keep organized if people are sending mail to other addresses.
b. In the subject line of your message, please always start with your troop number or group name, then IGIG number that you are sending in or asking a question about.
c. What I offer are a series of pre-written, beginning html classes. My objective is to help Girl Scout/Guide Leaders to get over the initial (fear/ not knowing where to start). Leaders may, then, teach their troop what they have learned. If anyone wants to learn more, there are plenty of resources on the Internet. But I do not have time to teach beyond what the classes offer or to answer technical questions about other providers. They should all offer technical support for the services they provide.
d. I prefer you to keep your web site on the Cyberscout site, but will let you move it if you decide to. As far into the future as I can see, you can keep your site here at no charge. If my circumstances change and I am unable to maintain this site. I will give you at least 1 month notice so you can move your site.
3. With your first IGIG, please send your
a. name,
b. title,
c. troop, service unit number or council name,
d. neighborhood
e. level or levels
f. city
g. state or province
h. country
i. any special interests the troop has.
j. If you plan on using a program to submit your pages (Front Page,
Pagemill, Hot Dog, for example) please tell me the name of the one you are using.
Whew! OK, let's dive in!
TODAY'S ACTIVITY
(If you are using a program to send in your pages do the activities but don't worry about the coding. Just type it the way you want it to look.)
Write an introductory paragraph about your troop. I won't tell you what to say or how to say it but it will be used on your homepage, so write it with that in mind. Don't spend too much time or stress on what you say, because it can always be changed.
After you like what it says. Send it to me, via e-mail.
Oh yea, type these tags before your paragraph:
<html><body>
After your paragraph type these characters:
</body></html>
The slash is used to "turn off" many tags in html.
What do the characters mean? I'll tell you next time.
Your paragraph should look like this example:
<html><body> Hi! We are troop 5555. We live in Phoenix Arizona. And on and on about our troop.
</body></html>
The example is only to show where your introductory paragraph is placed. Say whatever you want to say. You can see examples of other troop pages by looking at
Click here to go to the Cyberscouts site
Double click on individual troop numbers to see that troop's homepage.
OK, that's IGIG1!
When you have completed it, send it to me. Send all email to ourtroop@azmetro.com
Your paragraphs will be posted on our website within a few days. You can see them by going to Cyberscouts
If your paragraph is posted your troop number will be among those listed. Double click on your troop number to see your paragragh.
From now on, these classes will go at whatever speed you do. Allow me 2 or 3 days to respond to assignments when you send them in. sometimes it will be faster or slower but that's about how its been working lately. If you don't hear from me for much longer than that, let me know as I have been known to loose people in the shuffle. I strive for perfection but still have a long way to go.
See you,
Diane
