Harrogate Girl Scouts

The Harrogate Girl Scout Neighborhood serves 70 girls in 5 troops and is part of the North Atlantic Girl Scouts; GSUSA Overseas. We are fortunate to live in the beautiful and historical Yorkshire Dales area. Harrogate is an old "spa" town, located halfway between the cities of York, with its museums and medieval walls, and Leeds, known for its shopping centres, universities and industry. The village of Thirsk, where Alf Wight (James Herriot) had his veterinary surgery is only a few miles away. There are many Scout and Guide campsites nearby and the troops all camp at least once a year, in all sorts of weather!

The Harrogate Girl Scouts maintain close links with the nearby Guide units; sharing a Halloween Party, Thinking Day event, and bowling evenings. It was very easy for the girls to earn their International Friendship Pins. 1998/99 highpoints include several service projects, a neighborhood sleepover, staying in a castle in Wales, and visiting both Pax Lodge and the Guide's Heritage Centre in London. The Cadette/Sr. troop is even planning a trip to Spain!

We love to hear from other Girl Scouts and Guides, especially those planning to visit England.
