Our Brownie Try-Its:

Caring and Sharing. We acted out plays on how to be a true friend and talked about our differences and similarities. Then we had fun surprising our secret pals. Completed January 2000.

Colors and Shapes. We made our own t-shirts with stencil stampers to wear to Encampment, colorful swaps, Mexican yarn art, and woven placemats. Completed June 1999.

Cookies Count. We set goals and practice our best selling manners and safety rules before we sell cookies for the first time. Completed January 1999 and repeated (for our new members) in 2001.

Earth and Sky. We did this badge at encampment. We dug up dirt to learn about soil, observed erosion and evaporation, and watched birds and butterflies. Completed May 1999.

Food Fun. We tried different foods at Thinking Day, and made healthy snacks and sloppy joes at encampment. Completed May 1999.

Girl Scout Ways. We planned a ceremony, celebrated Juliette Gordon Low's birthday, sampled s'mores, and made sit-upons. Completed December 1998.

Listening to the Past. We made family trees, met a long-time Girl Scout volunteer, toured the community, and learned how to play jacks at our Juliette Low campout. Completed October 1999.

Manners. We learned about phone manners, helping at home, introductions, and respect for others. Completed May 1999.

Music. We learned "Make New Friends" for the round and lots of action songs. Then we learned songs from other countries and played melody glasses. Completed June 1998.

For Thanksgiving, we worked on our council's Native American Try-It and made Native American crafts, played a Native American game, listened to legends, and sampled fry bread. Completed November, 1998.

Outdoor Adventurer. We learned to dress for the weather, pitch tents, roll sleeping bags, and planned our summer sleepover. Completed August 1999.

Outdoor Fun. We made trail mix, did a nature scavenger hunt, tied knots with licorice, and did leaf rubbings. Completed September 1998.

Play. We learned games from around the world. We loved "Mr. Bear." Completed May 1998.

Puppets, Dolls, and Plays. We made dolls and two kinds of puppets. Then we put on a safety play. Completed April 1999.

Safety Sense and the Junior Safety Sense Badge as well as the Brownie and Junior Safety-Wise Awards. We covered topics that included fire safety, simple first aid, playground safety, keeping safe in public places and what to do when approached by a stranger. We identified home safety hazards, took a survey of our families' accidents, developed an evacuation plan for our meeting place and learned how to help a choking victim.

Science Wonders. We experimented with magnets, static electricity, sugar crystals, and bubbles. Completed January 1999.

Working It Out. We learned about friendly words, keeping our cool, and to avoid pushing buttons or hurting feelings. Completed May 1999.
