Throughout the 98-99 year, we worked on many different activities. Try-Its are just one part of the Girl Scout program. Their name says it all - try it. You don’t have to be perfect at an activity; you just have to try.

”Ready,Ready, Set, Go!

This was our very first try-it, so we decided on something that would be fairly easy. We did stretches, balanced books on our head, learned hand eye coordination, did jumping and ran races.

”WatchingWatching Wildlife

We did earthworm observations, learned what crumbs ants liked to eat most, and read and discussed how wild animals live and eat.

”WorkingWorking It Out

We completed the activities from the Brownie Handbook on conflict resolution. We learned how to keep our cool and work through problems so everybody wins!

”GoodGood Food

This was a very tasty try-it. We started with a field trip to our local Krogers grocery store where they taught us their “Five A Day” program of fruits and vegetables. We also learned about the food pyramid, and during our meeting we sampled different foods from all 5 groups.

”CookiesCookies Count

We were very excited about selling cookies! We set a goal to sell enough boxes to go horseback riding at our councils center, Camp Innisfree Equestrian Center. We learned about manners, money and we even made posters to advertise in our school.

”Manners”Manners We learned table manners by having a tea party, phone manners by talking on play phones, we were taught the proper way to introduce yourself to others and had a “manners quiz”.

”GirlGirl Scout Ways We went over the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law, and to see what they mean to us. We went over the special girl scout hand signs, and microwave s’mores. Yummy!

”Animals”Animals

We worked on this try-it at the Madison Heights Nature Center. We went on a nature walk through the woods, then inside the center we watched a movie on animals, and finally we got to meet some of the animals that live in the center.

Art To Wear

We had a fun time creating our own tie dye nightshirts for our sleepover. We also made play dough for beads, papier mache bracelets and masks.

Movers

We made wind wheels and circle gliders, completed a weather crossword puzzle, and read about wind, clouds and rain. Home
